President Michel Aoun declared Thursday that the national army has proved to rise above the personal interests and conflicts to be the country’s guarantee, noting that during the last two years, the army registered major achievements by liberating the mountainous regions from terrorists and managing along with other security forces to crush their cells and paralyze their movements.
In a speech he delivered during the Army Day ceremony at Shekri Ghanem Barracks in Fiyadieh, Aoun noted that the achievements of the army extend to the protection of the southern borders, with the presence of an enemy that repeatedly violates the international treaties and resolutions, namely the UN Security Council resolution 1701.
The president also stressed that Lebanon has been facing a tough economic and social crisis, but it will be surpassed. “If we do not make sacrifices today, and if we do not agree to waiver some of our gains, we risk losing everything,” he stated.
