Speaker Nabih Berri met Tuesday with US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker in Ain al-Tineh, in the presence of US Ambassador to Lebanon Elizabeth Richard.
During the meeting, Berri stressed that Lebanon has ratified financial laws that put it in Lebanon with the highest international standards in fighting money laundering, noting that the Lebanese economy and the banking sector cannot bear this load of pressure.
The speaker also emphasized that Lebanon is keen on maintaining stability and abstaining from being dragged into wars, reiterating commitment to the international resolutions, mainly the resolution 1701. He then noted that the Israeli enemy is responsible for all the violations of this resolution and for threatening the stability that has been in place since 2006.
Discussions also tackled the demarcation of the maritime borders in South Lebanon.
