President Aoun meets UN chief Guterres in New York

President Michel Aoun met on Wednesday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York.

During the meeting, Aoun said that Lebanon is committed to the role of the United Nations in enhancing security and stability in south Lebanon through the UNIFIL, and that in order to implement Security Council‘s resolution No. 1701.

On another note, Aoun said that the refugee crisis is on top of Lebanon’s priorities, mainly in terms of the need for their return to Syria, adding that International organizations must provide aid to them in their country.

In turn, Guterres asserted that the UN is keen on Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence, adding that it will do everything that will help achieve these goals.

Talks also featured high over the latest developments in the region.
