Aoun from New York: Lebanon holds on to its sovereign rights over occupied Shebaa Farms, Kfar Shuba Hills and Northern Ghajar
President Michel Aoun delivered on Wednesday a speech at the UN’s General Assembly in its 74th session.
In his speech, Aoun stressed that the Israeli violations of resolution No. 1701 have never stopped as well as the continuous attacks on Lebanon’s sovereignty by land, sea and air.
"The blatant act of aggression that took place last month on a residential area in the heart of Beirut is the most serious breach of this resolution,” Aoun said.
The president reiterated Lebanon’s commitment to resolution No. 1701, adding however that such a commitment “does not abolish Lebanon’s natural right to legitimate self-defense of its land and people by all available means.”
On another note, Aoun stressed that Lebanon holds on to “its sovereign rights over the Shebaa Farms, the Kfar Shuba hills and the he northern part of the village of al-Ghajar.
Aoun also said that no opportunity will be spared in order "to consecrate Lebanon’s internationally land borders which are firmly documented at the United Nations," and to demarcate its maritime borders as well, under UN supervision, while welcoming any help from any country in this respect.
He also urged world leaders to contribute to the safe return of the refugees to Syria, pointing out that the responsibility to address this crisis is not limited to Lebanon solely,

"It is a joint international responsibility," he went on saying.
"The International community cannot just provide minimum aid to displaced people and refugees in their places of displacement without any safe and dignified return programs," he said.
On another note, Aoun said that Lebanon has taken many steps this year to enhance the role of women.
He also pointed out that the Lebanese government approved a comprehensive national plan of action for the implementation of the Security Council resolution No. 1325 on women, peace and security and has started to implement it.
“We have also completed all steps related to activating the work of the National Human Rights Commission and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture," he concluded by saying.
