Kataeb party Chief MP Samy Gemayel launched a campaign on Wednesday aimed at providing houses and shelters for all families affected by the fires that raged across Lebanon on Tuesday.
In a press conference, he declared that the party has been contact with several touristic institutions, which offered rooms to receive the families that lost their homes by the fires, stressed that the Kataeb centers are also open across Lebanon for everyone. “We will not leave any person homeless,” he added.
MP Gemayel announced that a phone number (70646131) is available for contact, calling for forming a parliamentary committee to investigate into the case of the Sikorsky helicopters.
In the same context, he explained that the Sikorsky helicopters are meant to prevent disasters like the one that occurred Tuesday, stressing that had they been operating, the tragedy would not have been as severe as it was. He stated that the best place to investigate into this neglect is not the judiciary, but the parliament, “because this default is institutional and related to the government.”
He also announced that he conducted the necessary calls to work with the concerned parties, in a bid to start the reforestation process, noting that this issue could require more time since the soil is not ready for plantation.
“In 2001, MP Pierre Gemeyael submitted a proposal to establish an apparatus tasked with anticipating and managing disasters,” the deputy said, adding that had this apparatus existed, it would have prevented such disasters.
Consequently, the Kataeb chief called on Speaker Nabih Berri to put this proposal up for a vote the soonest possible.
