Zarif vows to end US presence in Middle East after Soleimani killing
Iran will take vengeance on the United States for the killing of general Qassem Soleimani, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said at a conference in Tehran on Tuesday.

Zarif said that the killing of Soleimani on Friday was the beginning of the end of U.S. presence in the Middle East, and promised to punish the U.S for what he described as their  “huge gamble.”

Zarif made the comments in an address to the Tehran Dialogue Forum 2020, an international summit attended by several nations from the region.

In Washington on Tuesday, the U.S. defense secretary denied reports the U.S. military was preparing to withdraw from Iraq, where Tehran has vied with Washington for influence over nearly two decades of war and unrest.

U.S. and Iranian warnings of new strikes and retaliation have also stoked concerns about a broader Middle East conflict and led to calls in the U.S. Congress for legislation to stop U.S. President Donald Trump going to war with Iran.
