Lavrov: Moscow will press Security Council to approve Geneva deal on Syria
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced on Saturday that Russia will press the U.N. Security Council to approve a transition deal for Syria brokered in Geneva during a meeting scheduled for September.

Lavrov said that there is a plan to hold a special meeting for the Security Council with the participation of ministers to discuss the Syrian issue. “Russia will push for the approval of the Geneva deal suggested by former international envoy to Styria Kofi Annan on June 30”, he said.

Lavrov considered that the U.S. sanctions imposed against Iran and Syria harm Russia’s economic interests.
