REPORT: Will the cabinet turn into cabinet of decrees with March 14 boycotting Parliament?

With the parliamentary elections drawing near, the electoral law seems to be pending. While the cabinet is planning the discussion of funding sources for the pay scale during Wednesday's session, the Parliament's doors became closed in front of any proposals.

With March 14 forces boycotting everything related to the cabinet, the latter may turn into a cabinet of decrees, prohibited from presenting draft laws.

In this context, Justice Minister Shakib Qortbawi told LBCI that the cabinet is neither a caretaker cabinet nor a 'truncate cabinet'; however it is performing its duties perfectly. Qortbawi said that March 14 boycott of everything related to the cabinet and the Parliament is a boycott of legislation, "since the cabinet is continuing its work normally."

"Is March 14's boycott of the cabinet aims at preventing it from approving a new electoral law?" he asked.

On the other hand, MP Boutros Harb told LBCI that he denounces every statement accusing March 14 of leading the country to void and that their position is related to the electoral law. He noted that the current cabinet proved its failure, stressing that they have the right to change it by peaceful democratic ways.

Harb stressed the need to find a solution for the critical situation the country is going through and to hold the elections as scheduled.

"We do not fear void in legislation, because the cabinet's economic policy is catastrophic, and our position can benefit the country by preventing the catastrophe from taking place." Harb said.
