Relatives of abductees in Syria protest outside Turkish contingent in Tyre

The relatives of the 9 remaining Lebanese abductees in Syria held a sit-it outside the UNIFIL’s Turkish contingent east of Tyre with the participation of around 60 persons.

Protestors held banners calling on the Turkish government to ensure the swift release of their relatives. They also distributed 265 flowers to the Turkish contingent’s soldiers and officers, in a bid to convey a peaceful message to the U.N. through the Turkish contingent.

Following the sit-in, the relatives entered the contingent’s headquarters and met with its leader Colonel Hassan Erturk who hosted them for lunch and reassured them that he will convey their demands to his country’s government.

Eleven Lebanese pilgrims were kidnapped on their way back from Iran by insurgents hoping to use them for a prisoner swap on the 20th of May. Two of them were later released and returned to their loved ones.
