Compensation payments ongoing for Achrafieh families

The committee in charge of following up on the people affected by the Achrafieh explosion declared in a statement issued on Thursday that Beirut’s Municipality started paying the compensations according to the names list obtained and will continue to do so over a period of three days.             

On Thursday noon, the committee reported paying compensations for almost 21 families, whose apartments were damaged by the explosion.                  

The payments will be complete by Friday and Saturday, reaching 5 million LBP. It is expected that 6 million LBP will be paid later on reaching total amount of 11 million LBP.            

On the other hand, the Municipality paid for the family of the victim Georgette Sarkissian an amount of 15 million LBP, and for the family of the injured child Jennifer Chedid an amount of 10 million LBP, noting that coordination is ongoing with the Lebanese Armed Forces teams that work on scanning the damages at the explosion site.               

On Friday October 19 a massive blast rocked through a crowded Achrafieh street leaving Maj. Gen. Wissam Hassan, companion Sergeant Ahmad Sahyouni and citizen Georgette Sarkissian dead. The explosion left several residents of the area homeless due to the extremity of the damage sustained in the area.
