Geagea: Amending Taif Accord leads Lebanon to the unknown

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea refused on Monday any attempt to amend the Taif accord, warning that this step would lead Lebanon towards the unknown, noting that seeking to modify this accord will be committing a fatal mistakes. He stressed that the Taif Accord represents all the active powers on the Lebanese scene.

In an interview aired on Dubai TV, Geagea stressed that March 14 forces are not escalating, pointing that the ones taking escalatory steps are the ones responsible for the assassinations occurring in the country, insisting that there won't be any political life amid the existence of the "killing machine".

Answering a question on whether or not it is possible that Lebanon fall in a new Israeli occupation trap without Hezbollah, Geagea said: “Before Hezbollah existed, Lebanon was never held in the trap of an Israeli occupation,” noting that Lebanon is an independent entity having its own army, institutions and people.
“The presence of Hezbollah places Lebanon under a greater danger, but however it remains protected by its diplomatic identity and the Lebanese Army,” Geagea added.
