Kanaan: March 14 boycott, a crime against the new electoral law

Change and Reform Bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan criticized on Friday March 14 MPs for boycotting the parliamentary committees which are designed to discuss a proper electoral law.

"This boycott of both the Cabinet and parliament is unacceptable and illogical because the constitution stipulates the presence of the Cabinet to discuss a law submitted by this government or review the Orthodox proposal which was suggested by some MPs," Kanaan said.

The MP argued that the Future movement and some regional powers seem to be applying pressure on March 14 MPs not to take part in any parliamentary session or discuss the electoral law.

Kanaan stressed that it has become common knowledge that when Saudi Arabia and Syria reach an agreement all the Lebanese sides sit together.

"But when these countries have conflicts, we usually pay the price," he said.

He described the March 14 boycott as a crime against the new electoral law, stressing that this means that the rights of the Christians remain jeopardized.
