Guards thwart escape attempt by Fatah al-Islam prisoners from Roumieh

Guards at the Roumieh prison thwarted an attempted escape of 20 Fatah al-Islam militants from the Roumieh prison.

The inmates had planned their escape for Wednesday night.

In the details, the prisoners had had previous attempts whereby they sawed through steel bars, and dug partial tunnels inside a prison workshop they had earlier set fire to during prison riots.

Assistant Government Commissioner Judge Dany Zaani headed to the prison following the notification of judicial authorities whereby he launched investigations with the involved militants.

It is worth noting that the Roumieh prison has raised its security in the wake of the incident.
