Six killed in bus explosion near station in Pakistan

At least six people have been killed and over 40 wounded in an explosion near the Cantt Railway Station in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.

According to initial reports the explosion ripped through a passenger bus which was at a terminal.

The vehicle caught fire, and was reduced to little more than a charred skeleton.

A nearby hotel and vehicles parked next to the bus were also damaged in the explosion. Some of the wounded from Saturday's explosion were in a critical condition, according to a doctor at the hospital in Karachi where they were being treated.

It's unclear if the blast was caused by a bomb or a gas cylinder exploding. Many buses in Pakistan run on natural gas.

Karachi also has a long history of political, ethnic and sectarian violence.

It is also believed to be home to many Taliban militants who have fled US drone attacks and Pakistani army operations in the country's northwest.
