Berri seeks Lebanese consensus over new electoral law

Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri declared on Thursday that he is against the 1960 law, yet when the Christians agreed on it in Doha he didn't stand against it.

While receiving the Honorary Consular Corps headed by Joseph Habis, Berri pointed out that he is currently not against the Orthodox Gathering's draft law, stressing that he would seek till the last minute to find the Lebanese consensus in regards to the parliamentary elections issue.

“All what I am striving to achieve till the last minute is a Lebanese consensus on a law that best fits all Lebanese citizens," said the Speaker, who went on to say that he apprehends the fears of Christians in Lebanon.
