Berri discusses electoral law with Siniora in Ain El Tineh

The meeting held Friday between House Speaker Nabih Berri and Future bloc leader Fouad Siniora did not result in any electoral agreement. Instead, Berri reiterated that consultations will continue until a consensus is reached over a new electoral law, calling on all parties to cooperate.

A positive atmosphere prevailed over the meeting which was held in the presence of Future MP Nuhad al-Mashnouk and the advisor to former PM Saad Hariri Mohammad Chatah. It included an honest debate regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections, an overview of the different draft laws at hand in addition to points of convergence and divergence. The Future bloc reiterated its rejection of any electoral law based on proportional representation at this stage, according to sources close to Siniora.
