Clashes between Palestinian protestors and security forces rock Ramallah camp

Clashes erupted between demonstrators and Palestinian security forces at the Amaari refugee camp in Ramallah, injuring at least 20 Palestinians, according to medical sources.

“Seven members of the security forces and 13 protesters were injured in the clashes at the camp,” they said.

The clashes erupted early before midnight on Sunday after residents of the camp rallied in protest of the reported mistreatment of Palestinian inmates in an Israeli jail, blocking the main road linking Ramallah to Jerusalem.

When security forces arrived to the scene to reopen the road, protestors began throwing stones at them, witnesses and security sources said.

“Security forces opened fire in the air before moving to push the protesters back into the camp,” the sources said.
