Kanaan: No compromise on Orthodox Gathering’s law

The Secretary of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc, Ibrahim Kanaan, stressed Sunday his refusal to compromise on the Orthodox Gathering’s proposed electoral law, warning of a strategic decision taken mainly by the Future bloc to keep the Christians’ marginalization and unfair representation. “The Future bloc has not put forth any draft electoral law since 1990”, he said.

On another note, Kanaan considered that the call of House Speaker Nabih Berri on the joint parliamentary committees to convene aims at avoiding procrastination and accelerating talks to reach a consensus.

“The Christian blocs will be heading to the meeting of the joint committees with openness and they will engage in talks to find common denominators in case there was an actual will to achieve partnership and parity,” he said.
