Jumblatt: We should provide assistance to the displaced Syrians

            
National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt considered that national interest requires a reexamination of the dissociation policy.             

In his weekly stance to Al-Anbaa newspaper, Jumblatt called on Lebanese officials "not to indulge in the Syrian crisis", adding that the ongoing struggle in the country will not yield radical change.              

"The only alternative is to provide assistance to the displaced Syrians and to ensure the bare minimum conditions that preserve human dignity and go hand in hand with Lebanon's historical commitment to the international charters as well as the Declaration of Human Rights," MP Jumblatt said.            

In this regard, Jumblatt pointed out that the Syrian crisis is tantamount to the scenario that took place in Afghanistan where the West fought the Soviet clout through extremist groups and the Taliban only to later face off the back lashing repercussions.               

Jumblatt advised the Syrian opposition that they need to stay in contact with Moscow and avoid falling into the trap of boycott.           

On the domestic front, Jumblatt said that there is a party trying to undermine the military institution, stressing the need to support the army and distance it from wrangling and narrow accounts.            

"The growing scenarios aiming at weakening the State do not fall in anyone's interest. The lack of support provided to the Lebanese army would drive the situation towards further havoc," MP Jumblatt said.         

On another note, MP Jumblatt stressed the need to finalize the Islamist detainees' file, adding that when the judiciary takes decisive decisions, it could take bold decisions, as was shown in the case of former minister Michel Samaha.
