Preliminary Results:
In Debbiyeh, the list of former mayor Georges Boustani acquired 60% of the votes.
In Zgharta, preliminary results showed the winning of former mayor Gerald Abdallah's list.
Turnout
Accordingly, the operations
room at the Interior Ministry declared that the turnout at the polling
stations at noon reached 36% in Qobayat, 20% in al-Bireh, 16% in Rmah,
39% in Kroum Arab, 26% in al-Sahle and 34% in Qlaiat.
In Baslouqit, Zgharta, the voters’ turnout reached 15%, in Nassiriyah,
Zahle, it was 27%, in al-Cherbin, Hermel 24%, in al-Qaddam, Baalbek 15%,
in al-Aqbe, Rashaya 17%, in Hemlaya, Metn 22%, in Qernayel, Baabda 8%,
in Sarhamoul, Aley 32%, in Kahale, Aley 30%, al-Debbiyeh, Chouf 23%,
Mazraat al-Chouf, Chouf 11% and in Kfarhoune, Jezzine the turnout
reached only 7%.
Akkar
The sub-elections kicked off amid tight security measures adopted by the LAF outside the polling stations of Qobayat, al-Bireh,
Kroum Arab, Rmah and al-Sahle. Akkar witnessed simple disputes inside some polling stations, the ISF, however, resolved them.
In this context, the polling stations in Qobayat are witnessing heavy
turnout, of high record of 60%, as citizens came from different regions
amid stable situation to vote for two lists, "My hometown, my identity"
headed by Abdo Makhoul Abdo backed by the FPM, and a list headed by
Michel Hanna and backed by MP Hadi Hobeish and the LF.
Future bloc MP Hadi Hbeish headed to al-Daher polling
station in Qobayat, where he voted and was informed of the course of the
elections, stressing that the elections are being held with freedom and
democracy.
In al-Bireh, the same situation applies, where the competition is
between the two electoral lists, “al-Bireh First” headed by Jamal
al-Merhebi and “al-Bireh for Development” headed by Mohammad Wehbe, amid
democratic atmosphere.
Aley
Elsewhere, in Kahaleh, Aley, the competition is between two complete
electoral lists, a list headed ny Georges Toufic Bejjani and another
list headed by Jihad Abdallah Bejjani, as well as independents in
elections held on a development and family basis.
Also, the competition in Kornayel is limited to Awaar family.
Chouf
However, in Debbiyeh, Chouf, two electoral lists compete, the first is
headed by former mayor Georges Boustani and another list headed by fomer
deputy mayor Fadi Boustani, as well as an independent candidate compete
for the municipal council in a town where the dispute is
over al-Delhamiyeh reserve, and the sale of real estate to a wealthy
Shiite from Beit Tajeddine.
On the other hand,
Hasbaya’s mayor said that the mayor of the town of Khalwat won
uncontested on Saturday, after the withdrawal of the rival candidate.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel made an
inspection tour of polling stations in a number of towns where municipal
elections are ongoing.
Zgharta
Bsloukit witnessed a heavy turnout in ballot stations where two lists are competing. The first list is complete and includes 9 candidates, while the second is incomplete with 7 candidates.
The sub-elections were carried with democracy amid tight security measures.
