UCC’s open ended strike continues

The Union Coordination Committee (UCC) staged on Tuesday a central sit-in outside the Presidential Palace in Baabda, as the Cabinet was holding its session.

Associations of Public Secondary School Teachers, Primary Education Teachers as well as employees working in the public sector and in the private sector, coming from all regions, participated in the sit-in.

Demonstrators carried banners and Lebanese flags to denounce the government's failure to refer the wage scale to parliament.

Following speeches, the protesters blocked the main Baabda road, amid airtight security measures taken by the Lebanese Army.

The Union Coordinating Committee launched its open ended strike on February 19th 2013 after making repeated called on Prime Minister Mikati to validate the new salary scale and consequently refer it to Parliament for ratification.
