REPORT: Rai says some forces seek strife in the name of Arab Spring

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai warned on Monday against disturbing and painful incidents overtaking the region and urged the Lebanese and French people to double efforts deployed in order to restore peace.

During a mass dedicated for France held at Bkerke, Rai denounced the current situation of the Middle Eastern region, pointing out that “a number of oppressive forces are working to destabilize states and institutions, and are attempting to create strife between sects, while claiming to seek democracy in the name of the 'Arab Spring'”.

On the other hand, another mass was held at the monastery of St. John the Baptizer of the Basilian Chouerite Order in Khenchara, whereby similar calls were made on the part of the celebrating priest who stressed the need to distance Lebanon from the repercussions of the wars taking place in Syria and the Arab region, calling on the Lebanese officials to serve the public, instead of their own personal interest.
