Salam stresses importance of national interest and harmony

Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam called on those who agreed on his designation, to reach consensus concerning the process of the formation of the government, noting that he is seeking to fairly distribute the ministries among sects, without allowing one sect to monopolize the government.

While receiving a visiting delegation, Salam denied media reports which included names of the ministers who might be appointed in the new cabinet, stressing the importance of national interest and harmony within the government.

In this context, Salam said that he intends to form a cabinet with ministers who are not candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections, stressing that he will directly resign should he fail to reach an agreement with the concerned parties over a new electoral law.
