Charbel: Countries must fulfill their promises by helping Lebanon

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel headed a security meeting comprising the officials tasked with following-up on the case of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, in the presence of the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lebanon Ninette Kelley as well as representatives of the military and security apparatuses. The meeting tackled the agency's work in cooperation with the ministry and means to deal with the displacement issue.

In this context, Charbel stressed that the countries should fulfill their promises launched during the conference held in Kuwait, where they vowed to offer financial aids in order to improve the conditions of the Syrian refugees, noting that Lebanon is no longer able to bear the burden of the large numbers of displaced.

In this context, Charbel said that the Interior Ministry's apparatuses are performing their duties within their available capabilities, praising the humanitarian work carried out by the UNHCR and the efforts deployed to decrease the refugees' sufferings.
