India expresses deep concern over civilian deaths in Lebanon

The Ministry of External Affairs of India said on Friday it was “deeply concerned” over reports of civilians killed and injured in Lebanon, following what was described as the heaviest Israeli bombardment in the conflict, which reportedly killed more than 300 people.

Israel moved into Lebanon last month targeting Hezbollah after the group launched attacks in support of Iran during the peak of the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.

In a statement, India’s foreign ministry said: “India has consistently emphasized that the protection of civilians must remain the highest priority. It is essential to adhere to international law and respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.”
