Kanaan: A “fair accompli” cabinet surpasses the Constitution

Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan stressed on Friday that the pressures exerted prior to the parliamentary session set for May 15th aim at hindering the approval of the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft law, noting that “liberating the Lebanese decision from foreign intervention should be done through the establishment of authorities and institutions.”

Commenting on Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam’s intention to form a “fait accompli” cabinet, Kanaan told Voice of Lebanon radio station that “he doubts that this decision is conclusive and official,” pointing out that such a cabinet surpasses the constitution. He explained that Lebanon’s parliaments imposes the formation of a cabinet which represents all the parties according to each bloc’s size.

On Syria, Kanaan said that the situation is facing further deterioration, noting that the conflict will not only affect Lebanon, but will affect the whole region, “since the battle has acquired an international Arab sectarian and confessional aspect.”
