Abiad: Healthcare workers have been working beyond the call of duty
Rafic Hariri University Hospital's Director Dr.Firas Abiad said on Tuesday that the rate of positive tests among locals has been gradually rising over the last few days.
“This high rate signifies that Covid_19 is rampant in the community, and the actual caseload is higher than reported,” Abiad said in a series of tweets.
He also noted that hospitals receiving Covid_19 patients are working “at high occupancy and some of them are full.”
“Weekly, more than 50 healthcare workers are reportedly infected, further depleting a tired workforce,” he added.
Abiad also stressed that healthcare workers, whether doctors, nurses, or the supporting staff, “have been working beyond the call of duty.”
“Within the circumstances and available resources, their efforts have been exceptional. Yet, they risk burnout, and some are already leaving the country,” he concluded by saying.
