Social Affairs Minister Pierre Bou Assi stressed the need to support the Lebanese community in order to be able to keep bearing the burden of the Syrian refugee crisis.
The minister made his remarks during an introductory session for “Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region,” which will be inaugurated later today in the participation of 70 states, civil society organizations, European Union and the United Nations to follow up on the achievements of the London conference held last year. Lebanon takes part in the conference through a ministerial delegation headed by PM Saad Hariri.
Minister Bou Assi also tackled “the repercussions of the Syrian displacement on the Lebanese state and the Lebanese people as well as the economic effects resulting from the growing number of refugees.
He emphasized the need to boost the support provided to the Lebanese communities that are dealing with a challenge that exceeds their capabilities.
In this regard, he stressed the need to support projects aiming at developing the infrastructure and creating jobs for the Lebanese people, within projects implemented by the Social Affairs Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program to support hosting communities.
