Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni stressed that his government will work on holding a conference to support the Lebanese Armed Forces during the upcoming period.
He also noted that his cabinet will continue supporting the mission of the international forces working with the UNIFIL in South Lebanon, in accordance with the delegation granted by resolution 1701.
The Italian PM’s position came during his meeting with President Michel Aoun in Rome, in the latter’s last day in Italy.
President Aoun tackled the current political situation, emphasizing that the crisis that erupted following the announcement of Prime Minister Saad Hariri has ended and the final healing has neared, focusing on the importance of national unity and security and financial stability.
Aoun also raised Lebanon’s position regarding the refugee crisis, reiterating “the need that the refugees return to secure areas in Syria,” calling for the cooperation of the International Community to achieve the required results and to overcome the obstacles hindering the return.
Aoun and the Italian PM also discussed regional issues, mainly in Syria and Iraq, reaching an agreement over the need to activate meetings and conferences held in order to find a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis.
