Charbel says danger looms in Lebanon

        
Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel held on Thursday a press conference, prior to the meeting of the Central Security Council, in the presence of Caretaker Minister of Justice Chakib Qortbawi and the head of the Higher Judicial Council Judge Jean Fahed.         

In this regard, Charbel pointed out that the meeting to be held at his office in the Ministry will tackle the security situation, the Syrian refugees' dossier and the issue of border control.         

"Had the border areas been controlled, the four men wouldn't have been killed in Wadi Rafeq," Charbel added in reference to the crime that took place on Sunday the 16th of June whereby four citizens were shot dead in the region of Wadi Rafeq which is located between the bordering outskirts of al-Qaa and Ras Baalbeck.   

Charbel also said that danger is looming in Lebanon, adding that the political discrepancies are turning into international and foreign disputes.          

For his part, Qortbawi noted that the Public Prosecution undertook actions in regards to the threats launched in the city of Sidon, stressing that the situation in Lebanon is "unacceptable".       

Heavy clashes erupted Tuesday [18 June] between unknown gunmen and followers of a radical Sunni cleric Sheikh Ahmad al-Assir in south Lebanon, security officials said, killing one person in the latest apparent outbreak of violence between Lebanese factions supporting opposing sides in the civil war in neighboring Syria.
