Marouni: MP Aoun boycotted today’s session for ‘special reasons’

Kataeb party MP Elie Marouni said on Monday that the Kataeb Party called for postponing today’s General Authority session, adding that it is better to hold a session on the basis of a decree signed by President Michel Sleiman and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati that stipulates holding extraordinary sessions to ratify urgent laws.

Marouni told LBCI during Nharkom Said that House Speaker Nabih Berri gave various examples of laws ratified in light of a caretaker government; however, they were limited, adding that this matter is not related to legal jurisprudence, but to sectarian conflicts and disputes between the parliament and the cabinet.

Marouni added that the Kataeb Party boycotted today’s session in order to achieve consensus; however stressed that Change and reform Bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun refrained from attending the session for “special reasons”.

“MP Aoun is shedding light on a specific candidate for the position of army chief,” Marouni said.

MP Marouni concluded by saying that extending the mandate of the Army Commander remains "better than vacuum".
