Ghassan Sarkis calls on Basketball Federation to resign

The coach of the Lebanese national basketball team Ghassan Sarkis called on Sunday on the Lebanese Basketball Federation to resign after failing to perform its duties during the basketball season.

During a press conference held at Beirut International Airport upon the team’s return from the Philippines, Sarkis noted that the half of the Federation’s members resigned, while most of the basketball clubs are not satisfied with the Federation’s performance.

However, Coach Ghassan Sarkis stressed that the Lebanese national team represents all the clubs and the sects, pointing out that “the FIBA’s decision was used to exert pressure on the Lebanese clubs in order to bring them to their knees.”

“We will not remain silent regarding this issue,” he stated, warning of the gravity of the current situation as to the basketball in Lebanon. He also called for electing a temporary committee and a new federation capable of saving the game.

Sarkis addressed the Federation's President Robert Abou Abdallah saying: “I kindly tell you that you do not know how to run this game.”
