Joint Parliamentary Committees approves and amends domestic violence draft law

The Joint Parliamentary Committees approved on Monday the law to protect women against domestic violence and amended it to include all family members.

This as the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence staged a sit-in Riad El Solh Square as the session of the Joint Parliamentary Committees at Parliament kicked off.

Demonstrators asserted that their campaign started in 2008 and will continue until the main goal of adopting a law to protect women against domestic violence is adopted, welcoming the amendment step.

For her part, lawyer Layla Awada said that the amendment of the law is an important step, adding that the National Coalition will exert efforts to ratify the law at Parliament.

Protests have been staged regularly in the past two weeks following the death of Lebanese woman, Roula Yaacoub, who was beaten to death by her husband in the town of Halba, Akkar.
