Gathering of Muslim Scholars: To cancel dance show on religious hymn at Baalbek International Festival

The Gathering of Muslim Scholars in Lebanon issued on Friday a statement in which it tackled the condemnations launched on social media platforms against the executive committee of the Baalbek International Festival for listing a dance show to the beats of a Christian religious hymn.

The Scholars noted that Lebanon did not witness any similar offense in years, highlighting the organized efforts deployed on the international level "to assault the religious beliefs of some people in the name of arts and creativity."

The Scholars called on all believers to address such offenses, confirming its solidarity with the Church in condemning the show.

It also urged President Michel Sleiman to request from the concerned authorities, mainly the Lebanese General Security, the halt of such "organized offenses in order to preserve responsible freedom."
