PSP leader Jumblatt calls on Hezbollah to withdraw from Syria

National Struggle Front leader Walid Jumblatt said on Wednesday that he would consider all available options including the formation of a neutral fait accompli government should a neutral government of technocrats be rejected.

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa Daily, MP Jumblatt advised Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah to withdraw all Hezbollah fighters from Syria since "the countdown for the regime has begun," adding that Sayyed Nasrallah is not eligible to call for laying down the group's weapons since "only Iran can issue such a decision".

MP Jumblatt also noted that power shifts are taking place on the ground, pointing out that the Syrian opposition had captured the strategic Minneg airport in the city of Aleppo alongside an arms cache in a regime-held region.

On Tuesday, rebels fighting to topple the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad captured the strategic air base of Minneg in the northern province of Aleppo after a months-long battle.

Syria's crisis started as largely peaceful uprising against Assad's rule in March 2011 but turned into a civil war after opposition supporters took up arms to fight a brutal government crackdown. More than 100,000 people have been killed in the violence.
