Mentality should rise to level of national interest, Qabbani says

Mufti of the Republic Sheikh Muhammad Rashid Qabbani said on Friday that the performance of the Lebanese constitutional institutions reveal an impotence in the management of the country’s affairs in various fields.

“This impotence is deeper than the circumstantial political schism between majority and opposition”, he added.

“The mentality governing the political and economic works, public affairs and the governmental decisions…is in dire need to rise to the level of national interest and citizens’ affairs.”

In his speech on the Hegira year, Qabbani said that alignments, in their different types, prevent the approval and implementation of plans that would improve the “deteriorating economic and social situation.”

“The solution lies in reaching a unified political will that would overcome the hindrances of political battles,” he added.
