The story of Roger, a closer look at the homeless of Beirut

In the wake of a blog post depicting the story of a homeless man who was lying on the streets of Beirut’s Mar Mkhayel, bleeding and with a severe case of gangrene, several good Samaritans responded.

The man who was identified as Roger Dahan was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment. A Facebook page has also been launched to provide further help for Mr Dahan.
On Thursday, the photo of Roger was found on social media platforms posted by Lara Hussein who said: “This old homeless guy has been lying on the pavement at the end of Mar Mkhayel for 2 hours covered in blood and in the sun. We called the Red Cross, who said no hospital would take him… We called 112 they said they will see what to do. Nothing so far. His feet have gangrene we cannot lift him. We don’t know what NGO to call. Shame on this country! Please share among each other maybe some authority would feel a sense of humanity and help!”

Roger was also featured in a short film a couple of months ago. The film directed by Patricia Beainy depicts the story of his life and how he became homeless on the streets of Beirut.
