Obama praises Lebanon for hosting Syrian refugees

Lebanese President Michel Sleiman participated on Tuesday in the opening of the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, President Sleiman met with the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim, as well as US President Barack Obama .
In this regard, President Obama praised Lebanon's generosity in welcoming refugees fleeing the crisis in Syria.

President Obama confirmed support to Christians in Lebanon "seemingly since regional events pose a threat to their presence."

For his part, President Sleiman said Lebanon has had a difficult time dealing with the influx of refugees.

Lebanon has a population of about 4.5 million and now officially hosts more than 700,000 registered refugees. There are likely many more. Sleiman has estimated at least 1 million Syrian refugees are in Lebanon, with thousands more crossing over each week.
