Former ISF Maj. Gen. Rifi underscores need to deploy LAF on Lebanese-Syrian border

Former Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) Major General Ashraf Rifi issued a statement on Friday where he condemned "the raid launched by the Syrian regime's warplanes on the outskirts of Arsal" and the shelling that targeted numerous towns in Bekaa Thursday.

Rifi also said "the state is not assuming its responsibility in protecting Lebanese territories," lashing out at the inaction on the part of caretaker foreign minister Adnan Mansour.

"Mansour is not fully assuming his duties and seems to be more in line with being a foreign minister for the Syrian regime not the Lebanese state," he added.

Major General Rifi called for protecting all the Lebanese regions from all attacks, mainly those undertaken by the Syrian regime against the town of Arsal and neighboring areas after "repeated air raids caused more humanitarian and material damages".

He also urged the state to grant the families compensations for damage caused by the said attacks, stressing the need to deploy the army along the Lebanese-Syrian border and to thwart any assault against the state's sovereignty.
