Azour to LBCI: Azour praises Mikati efforts to avert crisis

Former Finance Minister Jihad Azour told Nharkom Said TV show that the step of funding the STL spared Lebanon a collision with the international community. Azour also praised PM Najib Mikati for his efforts that averted a crisis, adding however that the outcome of the issue was predetermined.

Speaking on the Arab and international sanctions against Syria and their repercussions on Lebanon, Azour said that, “There are financial, commercial and investment ties between Lebanon and Syria”.

Azour said that the Syrian crisis is taking its toll on Lebanon. “I hope that the crisis will end soon since sanctions harm the people more than they do the regime”, Azour stressed.

Azour voiced hope that Lebanon will deal with the sanctions imposed against Syria within a legal framework, adding that he considers that the domestic and regional situations are not worrisome.

Azour called on the cabinet to devise a development plan for the upcoming period, an anticipatory plan to determine the dangers lurking on Lebanon’s horizons and precautionary measures that should be taken.
