UN Chief to visit Lebanon January 2012

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour reiterated on Sunday Lebanon’s condemnation of the recent attack against UNIFIL.

During his meeting with U.N. Chief Ban Ki-Moon in the sidelines of the fourth United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Doha, Mansour confirmed Lebanon’s insistence on the continuing of the UNIFIL’s operation in the south and on boosting its role.

Mansour announced that Ban Ki Moon is scheduled to visit Lebanon on January 13, 14 and he is due to meet with Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri and PM Najib Mikati in addition to the local UNIFIL Commander in South Lebanon.

For his part, the U.N. chief voiced appreciation for Lebanon’s position on the attack and praised Mikati’s decision to fund the STL “which translates Lebanon's commitment to international resolutions”

A blast hit a vehicle carrying French members of the UNIFIL peacekeeping contingent on Friday morning, eastern Tyre, wounding five French peacekeepers and two civilians.
