Hearing of HRC chief Ibrahim Bashir's wife postponed

The state-run national News Agency reported on Monday that investigations with the wife of the Higher Relief Committee chief General Ibrahim Bashir was postponed to Monday December 12, after she failed to attend the session for health reasons.

Last Monday, the state-run national News Agency reported that Beirut Examining Judge Ghassan Oueidat issued an arrest warrant against the wife of Higher Relief Council chief Ibrahim Bashir after questioning her at hospital.

This come as Judge Oueidat headed to Beirut's al-Hayat hospital to question her after he initially deferred the interrogation last Tuesday.

On Monday 11st of November, Ibrahim Bashir was arrested along with his wife on the order of acting State Prosecutor Samir Hammoud for allegedly embezzling public funds.

Bashir has denied all the allegations.

Sources told LBCI that Bashir transferred funds to a private account in a private bank which in turn notified the anti-money laundering body about the transfer.

This comes as media reports stated that Bashir transferred public funds amounting to $10 million to private accounts abroad, among which some $3.6 million transferred to an account in Belarus, where his son lives.

The HRC is a governmental institution that falls under the authority of prime minister’s office and works closely with humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations Refugee Agency UNHCR.
