Speaker Nabih Berri hoped on Wednesday that the security plan being implemented in Tripoli will pay off, praising the results it has achieved so far.
Lebanese deputies who attended Wednesday's parliamentary meeting quoted Berri as saying that "the army should be given all the means in order to fully assume its duties and restore security in Lebanon's northern city".
"There is nothing new regarding outstanding issues and proposals and the country's affairs remain stalled," Speaker Berri said.
On the assassination of a Hezbollah commander in Beirut, Berri said that "the attack bore the hallmarks of Israel," stressing the need to be vigilant at this stage.
On Wednesday morning, Hezbollah said one of its leaders, Hajj Hassan Hawlo Al-Laqis, was assassinated on Tuesday overnight outside his residence South Beirut’s Al-Hadath region. In a statement issued by the party’s press office, Hezbollah said that Al-Laqis was assassinated near his house in the Sainte Therese neighborhood in Al-Hadath while he was on his way back from work. Also in the statement, Hezbollah accused Israel with carrying out the assassination, adding that Al-Laqis had previously survived various assassination attempts. Sources revealed to LBCI that 4 men ambushed Al-Laqis in the parking of the building where he resides, shooting him while he was still in his car.
