Hariri slams allegations against Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan

Following a report aired by local media Al-Jadeed, concerning the alleged investigations around the reasons why late Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan was not present in the convoy of late former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri on 14 February 2005, day of his assassination, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri issued a statement condemning the campaign aiming to tarnish the image of the STL.

Hariri stressed that the accusations were previously investigated a second time by the UN International Independent Investigation Commission (IIIC), three years ago, following a similar report aired by Canada’s CBC citing the same source and exonerated al-Hassan.

In this context, Hariri pointed that his family considers Brigadier General Wissam al-Hassan as one their own and is their martyr as much as Rafik Hariri is.

“If the aim of the campaign is confusion since the STL is to kick off next month, then we say it’s too late as justice will prevail soon on 16 January 2014,” he said.
