Maronite leaders meet in Bkerke to look into electoral law

Maronite leaders  held a meeting in Bkerke on Friday under the patronage of Patriarch Beshara Rai to look into the electoral law.

The meeting saw the participation of the four main Maronite poles, meaning the head of the Kataeb party Amin Gemayel, the head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun, the head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea and the head of the Marada movement MP Sleiman Frangieh.

In this context, Frangieh confirmed that he basically endorses the electoral law put forth during the Orthodox meeting, “given that it does justice to all sects, not only Christian.”

Frangieh explained during the meeting that the law achieves true equality, but should be subjected to further study at the political level, to avert any repercussion on the coexistence and civil peace in Lebanon.

When asked whether the meeting will reach positive results or not, Lebanese Forces Leader Samir Geagea told LBCI “God willing, we will reach a solution.”

Gemayel earlier voiced hope that the meeting will bear the desired fruits and achieve important solutions, adding that efforts are being exerted towards this end.

This meeting is the fourth of its kind and will discuss the legal aspect of the electoral law and will examine other issues such as the property law and the Christian participation in state departments.
