Grand Mufti Qabbani: US succeeded in fomenting strife in the Arab world

Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani said on Monday that the United States succeeded in fomenting strife in the Arab world, urging leaders across the region to come to grips with the situation at hand.

"The latest developments in Lebanon are extraordinary and come in line with the 'the creative chaos' theory suggested by former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice 'to divide the Arab world,'" he said.

The Mufti added that mounting extremism in Lebanon comes as a direct result of Islamists currently detained in Lebanon's Roumieh prison and the attempt to topple the moderate role of Dar al-Fatwa.

He noted that the Taef accord was set in order to unite the Lebanese people, stressing unity as the only means for overcoming the upcoming challenges.
