Sleiman: Israeli threats are a blatant violation to UN resolution 1701

President Michel Sleiman said Thursday that the Israeli threats to raid residential areas “are a blatant violation to the UN resolution 1701 on the political and international levels, and a flagrant infringement of the humanitarian principles and human rights.”

Threats made a day earlier by Israeli air force chief Major-General Amir Eshel, vowed to level areas where Hezbollah had allegedly established bases in residential areas, including Beirut, the Bekaa valley, and South Lebanon.

“Israeli threats clearly violate resolution 1701 on both political and international levels, in addition to the principles of human rights,” Sleiman said.

On another note, President Sleiman met with caretaker Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn and discussed the current situation and course of the basic needs program, which is an implementation of the Saudi grant to the Lebanese army.

Separately, Sleiman received former ministers Ziad Baroud and Salim al-Sayegh and discussed with them the latest political and governmental developments.

Later, the president met with acting General Prosecutor Judge Samir Hammoud who briefed him on the ongoing investigations conducted in recent security cases.
