Caretaker PM Mikati calls for Swiss support to uphold Lebanon's economy

President of the Swiss Confederation Didier Burkhalter held a meeting on Sunday with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Munich on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Mikati urged the Swiss president to back the fund that was established by the Lebanese government in a bid to help the economic sector confront the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.

In this regard, Mikati asked Burkhalter to double Switzerland’s support to the Lebanese Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross working in Lebanon.

In turn, the Swiss president thanked Lebanon for its “extraordinary humanitarian efforts to host the Syrian refugees".

Miqati also met with EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton, German defense minister Ursula von der Leyen, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmed Daoud Oglo and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
