MP Jumblatt: There can be no substitute to state amid these difficult circumstances

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt issued on Thursday a statement in which he hailed the “extraordinary procedures” that led to the discovery of terrorist networks that were plotting to carry out attacks across Lebanon.

“The procedures show once more that there can be no substitute to the state and its security apparatuses amid these difficult and complicated circumstances,” he added.

Furthermore, he stressed on the necessity of providing security apparatuses with “political or non-political cover.”

He also urged the Lebanese to settle political disputes and unite to spare the country further “weakness and fragmentation.”

The Lebanese Armed Forces succeeded on Wednesday in arresting Naim Abbas, a member of the al-Qaeda-affiliated Abdallah Azzam Brigades.

Investigations with him led to the discovery of a booby-trapped car in Beirut's Corniche al-Mazraa neighborhood which was loaded with more than 100 kg of explosive material.
