Former Minister Wahhab says Government to see the light of day soon

Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun met on Thursday with former Minister Wiam Wahhab, who expressed his expectations on the swift formation of a cabinet.

"We discussed today the government formation as well as the security situation. However, we must first hail the achievement of the Lebanese army command and the intelligence directorate,” head of the Arab Tawhid Party said.

"This institution shows every day that it is the main guarantor of the country's safety, dignity, and stability," Wahhad added.

He also noted that the government formation process has a serious chance to see the light of day next week, “if things remain positive."

"I believe that the aspirations of President Michel Sleiman to form a fait accompli government have vanished with the release of the Bkerke national charter," he said.

He added by saying that a de-facto government cannot survive, noting that “it would be short-lived.”

Last week saw the publication of the Bkerke National Charter under the auspices of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Bechara Rai.

The charter focuses on coexistence and national reconciliation, stressing that electing a new president is proof of Lebanon's respect to democracy and the concept of power rotation.
